Library awarded more than $25,000 in grant funds

Two grant applications submitted by the Library have been funded to the tune of $25,356.72. The Library will receive $3,765.72 in January from the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN) to implement new filtering technology for managing public access to the Internet. The content filtering system, designed to screen out obscene and illegal Internet materials, is part of a comprehensive gateway security solution that will protect the entire Library network.

The Library has also been awarded up to $21,591 as a participant in the Every Citizen Online project being facilitated by Connect Ohio. Connect Ohio is a nonprofit working to help extend affordable high-speed Internet service to every Ohio household. The funds will be used to purchase new computers and to provide free computer training sessions designed to introduce new users to computers and the many benefits of the Internet. The money for this effort is made possible by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The new computers and security solution will be implemented the end of January and the new computer classes will begin in February. Check the events calendar on this website for class schedules and contact the library to register. The project is expected to continue for a period of two years.
